ABOUT ME

Hello! My name is Adeline Reeves, and I am a senior at IUPUI pursuing a degree in Communication Studies. I am passionate about helping others and aspire to become a therapist, specializing in behavioral health, mental health, and family and marriage therapy. One area of focus I am especially drawn to is supporting children and families affected by alcoholism. I believe in the power of compassionate communication and aim to use my skills to make a positive difference in people’s lives.

Throughout my academic journey, I have honed my ability to effectively communicate and connect with others, which has been essential in both my studies and my personal growth. My experiences have equipped me with strong interpersonal, listening, and problem-solving skills—traits that are vital in the field of therapy. I also bring a great deal of empathy, emotional intelligence, and a deep understanding of human behavior.

In addition to my studies, I have spent four years working as a receptionist at BMW, where I developed excellent organizational, customer service, and multitasking skills. My time in this fast-paced environment allowed me to refine my communication skills while interacting with a wide variety of people, further enhancing my ability to remain calm, approachable, and effective under pressure.

As a Formula 1 enthusiast, I enjoy analyzing strategy, team dynamics, and the pursuit of excellence—interests that parallel my professional aspirations. I value precision, teamwork, and perseverance, qualities I aim to embody both personally and in my future career.

I'm excited to continue my journey towards becoming a therapist and am committed to using my education and experiences to support those in need.

Rookie Students – A Proposal to Improve Campus Advising

This team project challenged me to step into a more professional mindset and helped me grow in ways that go far beyond the classroom. Working with my group under the name Rookie Students, we created a formal report addressed to our campus Career and Advising Services. Our goal was to express real concerns many students face—like confusion around choosing classes, selecting a major, and understanding how advising works—and to offer thoughtful, research-based recommendations for improvement.
Throughout this project, I experienced significant personal and professional growth.
Here’s how this project helped me grow:
* Stronger Communication Skills: Writing a formal proposal and coordinating with teammates taught me how to express ideas more clearly and professionally. It also helped me become more comfortable giving and receiving feedback. 
* Increased Confidence in Professional Settings: Crafting a real-world report to a campus department made me feel like my voice mattered. It gave me confidence to speak up, share ideas, and contribute to meaningful change. 
* Leadership & Accountability: Taking responsibility for my role in the group—and making sure my work aligned with our shared vision—helped me grow as a dependable team member. It also taught me how to manage deadlines and stay organized under pressure. 
* Critical Thinking & Problem Solving: Diving into research, analyzing surveys, and thinking about practical solutions for real student challenges helped me develop sharper problem-solving skills. I learned how to look beyond the obvious and think creatively. 
* Greater Awareness of Student Needs: This project gave me a better understanding of how advising impacts the student journey—and how much potential there is for improvement when students are heard. 
In the end, this experience taught me how to carry myself more professionally, collaborate more effectively, and use my voice to advocate for something bigger than myself. It was more than a report—it was a step toward becoming the kind of professional I want to be.

Collaboration

One of the key projects I’m proud to showcase in my ePortfolio is an Instagram account I created as part of a team project, focused on exploring the impact of AI in the workplace. This initiative allowed me to delve into both the benefits and challenges of integrating AI technologies into professional environments, providing a platform for sharing valuable insights, tips, and advice. Our team focused on topics ranging from AI's ability to enhance productivity and foster innovation to the ethical concerns and potential job displacement it may cause. The account provides a balanced perspective on AI’s evolving role in the workforce, aiming to equip followers with the knowledge needed to navigate this rapidly changing landscape.

This project has been an invaluable learning experience, helping me understand the complexities of technological integration in business contexts. I’ve developed skills in content creation, strategy, and social media engagement, while also gaining a deeper understanding of the societal and professional implications of AI. Through this initiative, I learned how to effectively communicate complex ideas in a digestible format, and how to tailor messages to meet the needs of a diverse audience.

Beyond the technical aspects, this project has enhanced my teamwork and leadership abilities. I played an active role in guiding the development of content and strategy, ensuring that our message remained clear and impactful. I also took on the responsibility of coordinating with team members, fostering collaboration, and encouraging creative input from everyone involved. This project reflects my passion for staying at the forefront of emerging trends, promoting informed discussions, and empowering others to make thoughtful decisions in an increasingly automated world.

One of the most significant projects I’m excited to showcase in my ePortfolio is a course I developed, focused on enhancing psychotherapeutic effectiveness through nonverbal communication. This course is designed to educate mental health professionals on the critical role that nonverbal cues—such as body language, facial expressions, and tone—play in building stronger, more effective therapeutic relationships. I emphasize how therapists can consciously incorporate these elements into their practice to improve client outcomes, enhance emotional connection, and create a more empathetic environment for healing.

Through this course, I’ve had the opportunity to explore how nonverbal communication goes beyond words, playing a pivotal role in how clients experience therapy. I’ve learned how these subtle cues can significantly influence therapeutic rapport, trust, and ultimately, the success of the therapy process. The course also reflects my passion for blending professional competence with creativity, demonstrating that therapy is not just about technical expertise but also about fostering human connection and understanding.

This project highlights my dedication to both professional growth and the belief that therapy should be a dynamic, interactive process. It emphasizes the importance of communication in all its forms, and how integrating nonverbal elements can truly transform the therapeutic experience.
